Jeff Sessions believes that a promise has been made to existing retirees and the federal government must honor that promise by protecting benefits for those already receiving Social Security and Medicare. However, both Social Security and Medicare are in peril, and unless we act, they will not be available for future generations. It is the responsibility of leaders in Congress to stop deferring the problem to our children and grandchildren by acting now to ensure their solvency.
Jeff Sessions is looking at innovative ways to make Social Security solvent and sustainable for the future. He is exploring the idea of creating PLUS accounts, retirement accounts specifically created for each worker that would provide income in addition to Social Security. Much like a 401(k), individuals would pay into this fund over their careers and would be able to draw on it at retirement. It would guarantee that all individuals will have retirement security in addition to Social Security.
Our seniors depend on Social Security and Medicare to survive and the federal government owes it to them to ensure that those programs remain solvent long into the future.
