Under the U.S. Constitution, providing for a strong national
defense is the top priority of our government. As a senior member of the
prestigious Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator Sessions has consistently
promoted robust funding for our national defense programs. He is a steadfast
supporter of our men and women in uniform and he believes that they should have
the best training, tools, and resources available as they carry out their
missions overseas.
Sessions' leadership role is fitting, given that Alabama is
home to some of the most important defense facilities in the country. From Fort Rucker to the Anniston Army
Depot, Maxwell-Gunter Air Force base and the 117th Air Wing in Birmingham, and the Coast Guard station in Mobile to Huntsville’s leadership in missile defense, Alabama is playing an
important role in the defense of our nation.
Our troops are currently engaged in combat operations in
Iraq and Afghanistan. Our nation must give them the support that they need to
win. Sessions firmly opposes
Congressional activities that politicize the funding for our men and women in
uniform and he has called on Congress and the American people to support our
troops during this critical time.
Our Armed Forces, including Reservists and the National
Guard, are making sacrifices to serve their country. We cannot forget them or
their families. Senator Sessions
has led in the efforts to improve benefits, advance educational opportunities,
and increase pay for our men and women in uniform. He firmly believes that the American people and the United
States government owe them a debt of gratitude.
