Jeff Sessions Campaign Update - April 2, 2008

4/2/2008

Jeff has been traveling the state as part of his annual commitment to visit all 67 counties. Last week he spent time in 16 counties speaking to constituents, hosting town hall meetings, and hearing from business leaders about how to keep the economy growing. On the list of stops were McIntosh, Butler, Demopolis, Birmingham, Montgomery, Prattville, Union Springs, Enterprise, and Dothan.

Senator Sessions covered a broad range of issues but focused much of his time on economic development. He toured Foster Farms, a growing food processing business in Demopolis where he commended their progress. He spoke about the recent Northrup Grumman/EADS tanker award and its positive impact on southern Alabama. Jeff visited Birmingham and spoke at the Innovation Depot, pointing to UAB and the city's growing medical/technology industries as the means to draw 21st Century businesses to the area. He also met with peanut farmers in Pike County to discuss the drought, this year's crop, gas prices, and the upcoming farm bill.

Jeff also made it a priority to engage in various community events around the state. He presented the "Stinging Hornets" of Bullock County High School with their 4-A boys varsity basketball state championship trophy. He spoke to the United Church of Christ's convention in Birmingham, and he finished his trip by addressing the Alabama-Florida Council of Boy Scouts in Dothan where he was the Golden Eagle Honoree.
